Installation Notes

V-Ray Next v4.x0.0x for 3ds Max 2013~2021:

1. Delete the unlocked files vray_v4x00x_fix.dlr and vray_v4x00x_max_fix.dll you ever used, or any other unlocked files like vray201x.dlr, vray_zzz201x.dll, LastVRay.dlr, BlackStorm.dlr, etc.
2. Download and install V-Ray for 3ds Max (there is no need to install the License Server)
3. Copy the unlocked file ‘vray_v4x00x_fix.dlr‘ to the following path:
   • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 20xx\plugins\ (or C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 20xx\plugins\vrayplugins\)
4. Copy the unlocked file ‘vray_v4x00x_max_fix.dll‘ to the following path:
   • C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\3ds Max 20xx (for x64)\bin\plugins\
5. Done

for V-Ray v3.60.03 for 3ds Max 20xx:

1. Uninstall all previous versions of V-Ray
2. Make sure you have removed the following folders:
   • 3ds Max: \Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 20xx
   • Vray RT: \Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3ds Max 20xx for x64\bin
3. Download and install ‘vray_adv_36003_max20xx_x64.exe‘ to its default installation folder
4. Copy the unlocked file ‘vray20xx.dlr‘ to “\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 20xx\plugins\” and overwrite
5. Copy the unlocked file ‘vray_zzz20xx.dlr‘ to “\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3ds Max 20xx for x64\bin\plugins\” and overwrite
6. All done, enjoy

for V-Ray v3.50.04 for 3ds Max 2015/2016/2017:

1. Remove all previous unlocked files, including the ‘BlackStorm.dlr’
2. Download and install ‘vray_adv_35004_max201x_x64.exe’
3. Copy the unlocked file ‘LastVRay.dlr’ to “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 201x\stdplugs” and overwrite
4. Copy unlocked files ‘vray.exe’ and ‘LastVRay.dll’ to “C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3ds Max 201x for x64\bin” and overwrite
5. Done, enjoy!

for V-Ray v3.40.03 for 3ds Max 2015/2016/2017:

Using the new unlocked files:

1. Download and install ‘vray_adv_34003_max201x_x64.exe’
2. Copy two files (BlackStorm.dll, vray.exe) in ‘RT‘ folder to “C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3ds Max 20xx for x64\bin”
3. Copy one file (BlackStorm.dlr) in ‘stdplugs‘ folder to “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 20xx\stdplugs”
4. Copy one file (vrlclient.xml) in ‘Chaos‘ folder to “C:\Program Files\Common Files\ChaosGroup”
5. All done, enjoy!

Using the old unlocked files:

1. Run ‘vray_adv_34003_max2017_x64.exe’
2. Click ‘Customize‘ button, uncheck “Install WIBU keys drivers“, then finish installation
3. Copy all unlocked files to installation directory and overwrite
4. Copy ‘cgauth.dll‘ file to C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3ds Max 2017 for x64\bin\
5. Done, enjoy!

for V-Ray v3.20.02 for 3ds Max 2015:

1. Download and run vray_adv_32002_max2015_x64.exe
2. On the 2nd screen, click Customize and then uncheck Install WIBU key drivers
3. Finish installation following instructions
4. Copy everything from Unlocked Files folder to your 3ds max 2015 (or 2016) installation directory and overwrite
5. Copy the single cgauth.dll file to C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3ds Max 2015 (or 2016) for x64\bin\ (so as to use the RT)
6. All done, enjoy!
